Korea National Food Cluster President Choi Hee Jong writes a contribution

Korea National Food Cluster President Choi Hee Jong expressed his view in a contribution to an online media in Korea. He mentioned the Hallyu craze in the food industry and gave an overview of the Korea National Food Cluster’s key facilities. Below is what he wrote in the contribution.

“Food companies hold the key to the food industry’s growth. Government support systems matter, of course, but what really matter in the food industry are food companies. Many food companies with global visions are flocking together in the Korea National Food Cluster in Iksan, Jeollabukdo. To date, 40 local and international companies have invested in the 2,300,000 ㎡-wide food cluster that will be ready roll by the end of the year. In fact, many companies have already started running their production lines on site.

The Korea National Food Cluster offers services designed to facilitate food companies’ innovation and growth. They can take advantage of the cluster’s R&D facilities, quality and safety analysis and prototyping facilities available for use at low costs, as well as materials and market development services. The three key services of the Korea National Food Cluster are: △ technical support (food quality and safety center; functional test support center; and food packaging center), △ production support (pilot plant; food ventures), and △ business support (Korea National Food Cluster support center).”

 

Korea National Food Cluster’s briefing in Seoul and Gyeonggi ends in success

The Korea National Food Cluster held a briefing for CEOs of food companies in the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions in The K Hotel Seoul on November 14. The briefing was intended to inform them of the Korea National Food Cluster’s key services and government support, as well as trends in the food industry.

In his opening speech, Mr. Hwang Gyu-gwang, director of the Korea National Food Cluster promotion team of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said: “with aims to help Korean food companies sharpen their global competitiveness and contribute to promoting the consumption of local agricultural produces, we are strategically building the Korea National Food Cluster in Iksan, Jeollabukdo that offers many benefits. I am looking forward to the food industry’s interests.”

 

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Strengthens Support for Agro and Food Startups

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is gearing up to pursuit the dual goals of job creation and rural economic growth by facilitating agro and food venture startup businesses. As part of the efforts, the ministry is building a comprehensive support system to provide diverse supports from close-range support for startup incubation in the field to funding and sales channel support.

For college students, stopout students or other youth who are planning to start his/her own business or having great ideas, space for prototype development will be provided. Those who want to start new business, under the age of 39 can practice or experience the entire process of prototype development, test and sales at the ’Food Police Startup Support Lab.’ It is a 3-month course and additional 1-month extension is allowed for those passing the test after completing the course.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is set to build a national food cluster to attract investment from business sectors. It is to attract 160 food companies and research institutes by 2020, with 1:1 approaches to attract investment, customized by size and type of business. As of last year, only 25 food companies and research institutes joined but the plan is to increase the number, by attracting 50 companies and institutions this year, to more than double up the last’s year’s figure, 80 companies and institutions next year and 120 companies and institutions in 2019. Those who are on internship program to work for the member companies will be turned into regular employment positions at the complex, to encourage job creation.
