Foodpolis Support Center and National Fusion Research Institute conclude an MOU.

At a signing ceremony held on August 8 at the research institute located in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, both institutions agreed to plan and jointly research, use research equipment together, and exchange information for a food-plasma fusion technology project under mutual cooperation. They also agreed to supply developed fusion technology for its commercialization.

Plasma which is called “the 4th state of matter” is used as core technology in the high-tech industry (semiconductors, displays, etc.). Recently, fusion researches are being actively conducted to use it in the bio-field including medical areas and agricultural food.

In particular, plasma technology can be used in various food industry fields such as unheated sterilization, removal of pesticide residues, increase of effective microorganisms, etc., so it is catching on as a promising future technology.

Tae-jin Yun, president of the Korea National Food Cluster, explained, “This agreement is a good opportunity to step up food processing technology to extend the boundaries of the food industry. We will especially focus on the development and expansion of the food consumption market by using it actively for HMR business that the Korea National Food Cluster is promoting as a priority.”
